Yes. Having been published previously by two of the Big Publishers (what was then Routledge Kegan Paul and HarperCollins) as well as by some smaller publishers, I have no doubts about my credentials as a writer. All my books are now independently published (including books that I reclaimed from traditional publishers) and I am proud to have it so, but we could certainly do with more recognition, while acknowledging that not all independent writers are of equal competence (of course). This needs wider discussion.
Good points! In my next book I talk about authors who moved from traditional publishers to indie publishing, and how much better the experience is for them.
That's a good point - the end goal is being talked about (in a good way!) so if the book is widely discussed in places like podcasts (no pun intended) then that could achieve the goals far better than some awards.
You need to be able to speak well. When Mauro Biglino wrote his book "The Naked Bible" it got nowhere because he could not speak good English and it was painful to listen to him.
Then he wrote with a co author and now people are reading and listening!

Good post Karl.
If I had a book published, I think I would rather talk about on podcasts that win an ward.
Interesting Karl. Thanks!
