Karl, if there isn't an Idiot's Guide about why you should leave big brand business and social media, and how to do it.... then you could secure your place in history (and ironically become a top-seller on Amazon along the way!).
I'm with you. Daily depressed about this both blatant and covert control. It feels unavoidable and inescapable, especially to time-pressed families with both parents and children having known nothing else.
Ha ha, I need to finish all my other projects first! But like anything, it is about breaking habits one bit at a time. So leaving Instagram or Apple was quick and easy. Leaving Microsoft took a year. But each time I feel much better about things. :-)
I'm fortunate that I never had to use Sado-Masochistic Social Media to earn a living. I preferred to be part of the Meta-averse. I refused to use LinkedIn back when I had a 'real' job: it just seemed to be an online version of the self-aggrandising and brown-nosing behaviour I saw every day in the office. Glad that I found you here on Substack. ❤️🕊️,Dx

Good luck on your escape.
Please write that guide!
