New And Shiny
I set up my new website a while ago, and it has options for people to buy books and products direct. It’s the best way to support your favourite author. (Or even me.)
Over time I will add more options exclusive to the store. For example, the two Lost Solace hardbacks aren’t available anywhere else. Eventually I’d like a hardback edition of every one of my books available there. Brilliant treats for my fans, or lovely presents for their friends.
This week I became aware of some new options for creating luxury hardbacks. I’ll list them below (with images - more available here), and would be very interested in knowing which one option would be your choice if you were to buy a hardback book from me?
Ribbons
“Enrich your readers’ experiences with our bespoke ribbon bookmarks, available in a variety of different colours to suit your titles. Available in: (Red, Black, Blue, Green, White)”
In that case I’d choose the ribbon for each title that best matched the colour theme of the cover.
Custom Foiling
“Transform your book covers and dust jackets with our custom foiling options, adding a touch of elegance to titles in a variety of different colours. Available in: Gold, Silver, Holographic.”
So some elements, such as the book’s title, would be shiny.
Custom Endpapers
“Enhance your readers’ experience from the moment they open the cover with our custom-printed endpapers, seamlessly blending artistic design with your narrative.”
In theory I could create artwork related to the book and include it there, in colour.
Box Sets
(Not yet available but coming soon.) So these would be in a decorated slip case.
Sprayed Edges
(Not yet available but coming soon.) A way to expand the cover theme over the edge.
You can email me back with your preference, or comment on this post (if you have a Substack account). I’ll also include a poll as an experiment! It will be active for one week.
Going, Going, Gone, 101
Sadly, it is your last chance to read Handholding 101 by Christoffer Petersen on my site before it is removed and goes exclusively to Amazon. It’s been wonderful to include many exciting works by other authors in my Friday Fiction series.
Personally Speaking
As ever, busy. Trying to get books finished, showing films at the arts centre, and working to make the world a better place. I’m currently liaising with the council to get four trolleys, a ladder and a bicycle removed from the river. Usually I just do it myself but the location is a bit tricky this time and requires longer ropes and grappling hooks. (I own one for this purpose, but it isn’t sufficient for the deeper river parts.)
The garden is beginning to really bloom. In February 2023 I planted an apple tree and some fruit bushes, and they are doing well. This was the planting day:
What was just lawn is now really thriving with plants! I will take a photo when they start to flower, since it shows such a contrast to the day they went into the ground.
Talking of gardens, on my other site I wrote about removing paving stones and restoring greenery: How To Whip A Paving Stone. That’s a less scathing piece than the one I wrote at the weekend: Palestine And Western Hypocrisy. I write fiction, yet often reality trumps it in terms of craziness. (That post also includes a video of me reading out a poem at a local event.)
What have you been up to?
Thanks for reading,
Karl
I chose ribbon because, I know, expensive, but it would be wonderful to have a flag ribbon from all the, good guys countries, and even book makers.
Good stuff, every bit helps.
