I like to play computer games when they tell a good story. Here’s a recommendation that I have played many times over the years. It’s called The Path, by Tale of Tales.
The Path
Some of my creative writing classes have been on the topics of fairy tales, folklore and myth. I always enjoy teaching that, so it’s no surprise I am interested in reinterpretations of that kind of tale. And that’s where The Path comes in.
It has a unique atmosphere, alternating between haunting, beautiful, and ominous. I think the trailer does the best job of telling you if you’ll be pulled in to this strange combination of folk horror and Lynchian suggestion:
But even that is only a partial taste. Let me explain some of the things I appreciate about this game (if it really is a game) by talking you through different elements. Don’t worry, I’ll avoid spoilers.
