Newsletter: Papers, Praise, Doggo Pals, And Pricks
I struggled to alliterate the content for this post
My Best Student
I run a monthly creative writing session called WRITE. Lots of lovely writers come along, join me in discussion, then write things based on prompts and topics I provide. It’s one of the highlights of my month. In the most recent session we discussed crime fiction and the colour pink.
And dogs are welcome! Here is one of my attendees. She tries to come to every class. I steal some of Dolly’s biscuits (don’t tell Dolly) and take them along to help my star writer last through the session, then fetch her a bowl of water from downstairs. She is very affectionate, and listens intently (or sleeps). The perfect attendee.
“Not That Gobshite Again!”
Sorry, yes, ’tis me, featured in a local paper talking about my latest book, Afua.
Praise
I keep forgetting to share reviews I receive, which is neglectful of me when people have spent time writing words about … my words. So I’ll try and feature some as my way of saying thanks. Here is a review I found recently, for my book Helene.
“Wow! That was a stunner. I know it was a short story, but 70-80 some odd pages ended too quickly. It felt more like 10 pages with how fast I tore through that book; buttery smooth writing. My heart is in bits! It was torn out and stomped on towards the end there, and I’m still mourning!”
The Final P Word
Mmm, that wasn't fun. Dolly has diabetes and I have to inject her with insulin twice a day. She is brave but I'm scared of needles, so I wanted to do something to overcome my fear, and show solidarity with her. So I just injected myself with sterile water. Ouch. (I won't share the photo of the lump in my skin and the drop of blood coming out!) But if she has to go through it, I should at least have an idea of what she feels. And it is important to challenge yourself, even if I did feel faint during the process.
May your days be bright and shining,
Karl
