Personal News From The Realm Of Drinky
I hope you are experiencing good weather, and making the most of it. One of my great pleasures is eating meals in the garden, under the shade of a magnolia. Or sitting on the bench with Dolly, a glass of beer, and a good book. It’s important to make time away from computers. Listen to the birds, the insects, the wind in the trees. Connect to nature.
I went for a run last night and realised I’m out of practice! I need to take it up again. Building it into a journey I was going to make anyway is a good start.
On a less relaxing note, I had a few arguments with racists recently, which inspired me to write this piece on my other site.
But we mustn’t let individuals destroy our appreciation of the world’s beauty, or how good and kind many people are.
What’s your favourite thing to do in the garden?
Karl’s Review Corner
This time, a review of Hidden Solace, the (very dark!) third book in my Lost Solace series.
“Opal and Clarissa have been taken prisoner by Aseides, a sadistic, unpleasant man who uses social niceties as part of his torture. Opal is on form with her sarcastic humour and refusal to be tamed, whatever they do to her.
And boy, do they make her suffer in this book! Just when I think Drinkwater won’t take it any further, he does.
Not your typical sci-fi – Drinkwater is a master of getting into the psyche of his characters, and his narrative makes you think more about the world around you.”
Review from the excellent Pink Quill Books.
Book News
“Hey, Karl He-who-quaffs-H2O: when will you do hardbacks of all the Lost Solace books for your super fans? Surely you have nothing better to do?”
The time is nigh! I’ve just launched a Kickstarter to create hardbacks of all five Lost Solace novels, so please have a look at my campaign and share it if you know anyone who uses Kickstarter, or likes good books. They would also make a great gift!
I’d love this to be a success, as I’ve struggled to get backers for my most recent crowdfunding projects. I’m immensely grateful to anyone who helps me get news out about this, as my marketing is mostly word-of-mouth from fans and supporters. Grazie!
Let me know what you are doing this month! And may May make you merry,
Karl
Hey Karl! It's been a minute eh. I hope things are well with you. I have another author friend that is trying to figure out how the whole Substack thing works and I'm wondering if you wouldn't mind giving a few pointers. I'm not entirely sure how to contact you directly anymore, but if you're willing. Do let me know! And we should have a chinwag soon again ourselves!
