Bookish News
My personal news (about herons, and my villainous mountain activities) is at the end of this newsletter. But first, the books!
To celebrate the creation of UESI, the sixth Lost Tale of Solace, I have made all of the Lost Tales ebooks 0.99 this month and next, as a form of summer sale. That’s a lot of different types of stories and characters, with the only connection being that they are all set in the Lost Solace universe. Each Lost Tale works as a standalone story, you don’t have to have read Lost Solace to enjoy them (though that can add an extra dimension).
Here are shortcuts to finding each exciting book on all the main online stores.
I’ve been working on the covers for the hardback Lost Solace books that some people who backed my Kickstarter will be receiving. Some images in this post. I’ve also been mocking up what the hardbacks might look like, so for book 5 I have put Clarissa (Opal’s younger sister) on the cover for the first time in the main series.
For those who didn’t back the Kickstarter, I’m just curious about the reasons, as it will help me when I plan future projects. Do the things I offer as rewards not appeal to you? Do you just not use Kickstarter? Was my explanation of how it works confusing? Anything else? I always like to know what’s going on in my fans’ minds. :-)

Review Corner
This time, a review of Lost Solace from Errant Dreams.
“As a dark science fiction tale, this is excellent. One of the things that’s so fascinating about the seemingly-abandoned ship is that in some ways, it seems like a prop for a movie. It doesn’t fit any one set of specifications matching any one ship–it seems to be a conglomeration with some bits added. Some of the surfaces on board the ship seem very strange, and certainly not normal. Equipment doesn’t really work the way it should. And boy howdy is it filled with dangerous critters!”
Do you like reading snippets from reviews of my work? Have they ever tempted you to try one of my wonderful books?
You can buy the ebook from me, or any online store. Paperbacks should be available to order in any bookshop, or direct.
Personal News From The Realm Of Drinky
We should always appreciate the nature around us. I often see this lovely heron when I go for a walk by the river:
It’s why I pick up litter and remove human detritus like shopping trolleys from the river. This world doesn’t belong to us, it is something we share with all life.
You can find my more political and philosophical musings on my other newsletter. There are four new posts there since my last author newsletter.
I spotted these panels the other day: from a 1960 issue of Princess comic. It’s always funny seeing my name in other contexts.
Send me any other “guest appearances” that you spot!
Finally, a freebie if you made it this far! I have a copy of the highly rated retro-style Loop Hero game to give away to one of you, which activates on Steam. If you like computer games, have a look at its page and let me know if you want it. First person to ask can have the game.
May your gooseberries be juicy,
Karl
My gooseberries are still ripening so I made chutney with the thinnings 👍🏽
